چکیده
(not more than 200 words) This report describes the 94 GHz imaging radar system that has been developed and used within the IR/mm project during the years 2001-2003. The new system, which is based on active gate mixers (GaAs MMIC), shows higher performance than an earlier used system, which was based on resistive mixers (InP HEMT). The conversion loss and pumping power requirement have both been reduced which has resulted in a significant improvement of the system sensitivity. A measured SNR of about 3 dB has been obtained (in average over 4x8 channels) for a 1 m 2 target at a 500 m measurement distance.

Why the melting layer radar reflectivity is not bright at 94 GHz
[1] At 94 GHz, the highest radar frequency used for atmospheric research, no radar bright band is observed at the melting layer. In this study, simulations of a vertical profile of melting particles and their scattering properties for a variety of melting particle models are used to capture the basic features of the radar reflectivity structure at 94 GHz in the melting layer. Observations of st...

Submillimeter-wave radiometry is a new technique for determining ice water path (IWP) and particle size in upper-tropospheric ice clouds. The first brightness temperatures images of ice clouds above 340 GHz were measured by the Compact Scanning Submillimeter Imaging Radiometer (CoSSIR) during the Cirrus Regional Study of Tropical Anvils and Cirrus Layers (CRYSTAL) Florida Area Cirrus Experiment...
متن کاملUltra Wideband Multiport Transceivers for Next Generation Wireless Personal Area Networks
Ultra wideband (UWB) communications is one of the most promising recent developments in wireless world for high-speed applications as shown in figure 1. In addition, the use of millimeter-waves has allowed in recent years the development of wireless communications: unlicensed short-range (57 – 64 GHz), outdoor semi-unlicensed point to point links (71 76 GHz, 81 86 GHz, and 92 95 GHz), automotiv...

The paper presents the experimental evaluation of 94 GHz CW-FM Radar that can be configured as a Ground Based SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) for high resolution imaging and deformation control. This system has been designed to obtain and analyze data of deformations on different types of bodies, being able to detect range changes of the order of micrometers. After indoor testing and validation ...
متن کاملComparison of Millimeter-Wave Cloud Radar Measurements for the Fall 1997 Cloud IOP
One of the primary objectives of the fall 1997 intensive observation period (IOP) was to intercompare Ka-band (35 GHz) and W-band (95 GHz) cloud radar observations and verify system calibrations. During September 1997, several cloud radars were deployed at the Southern Great Plains (SGP) Cloud and Radiation Testbed (CART) site, including the full time operation 35-GHz CART millimeterwave cloud ...
